In 1957, the Burbidges, Fowler and Hoyle assembled a detailed account of element production in stars, while Cameron developed an independent synthesis. Nuclear reactions and the observed abundance patterns could be connected in a common framework. The elements were products of a continuing history, rather than a fixed original mixture.
